Description
  • The wines of Chassagne-Montrachet are of excellent value and their image is timeless. When compared to their direct neighbours of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, these wines are full and very exotic in their fruitiness. Exposed to the southeast on a mid-slope, "Morgeot" is an excellent example of these wines, warm with a tropical fruitiness that is hard to match. This parcel, called "Morga" in 864, comes from the Latin "Margo" which means "edge, border". Morgeot is in fact, exactly on the departmental border between the Côte d'Or and the Saône-et-Loire, which corresponds to an ancient Gallo-Roman limit.

    • Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2022 - Burghound.com - 90/100

Riper aromas of white peach, passion fruit and floral hints introduce the bigger-bodied, solidly concentrated and powerful palate coating flavors that are quite seductive before terminating in a zest-infused finish. This is a classic Morgeot of generosity if not refinement and one that could use better depth so I would suggest buying it with the intent to cellar it for at least a few years (Allen Meadows, USA, June 2024)

    • Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" blanc 2022 - Wine Spectator - 91/100

With flashes of banana, pineapple and coconut, this white verges on tropical, settling into flavors of peach, lemon curd, butter and toasty oak on the palate. Offers weight and power, with a tactile feel on the spicy finish. Best from 2025 through 2032. (USA, April 2024)

    • Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2018, 94/100, James Suckling

Aromas of cooked apples, dried meat and hot stones. Some honey blossom. It's full-bodied with pretty depth and intensity. Layers of fruit in a complex interplay with smoky wood. Drink or hold.

    • Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru "Morgeot" 2018 - Wine Enthusiast - January 2020 - 93/100 A hint of Mirabelle, lemon, wet chalk and fresh, cold cream make for an enticing nose on this wine. The palate, with its gentle freshness in 2018, presents finessed texture and creaminess displayed against a backdrop of wet chalkiness. Subtlety, precision and elegance are the name of the game.

    • Chassange-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2018 - Burghound.com - Allen Meadows - June 2020 - 91/100

Here too there are notes of petrol and resin suffusing the aromas of ripe pear and apple compote and pretty floral nuances. The caressing yet solidly powerful flavors possess fine mid-palate density before concluding in a generous and rich but balanced and agreeably finale that offers good depth.

    • Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" blanc 2018 - Bill Nanson - January 2020 - "Bravo"

A very nicely vibrant nose - wide, mineral and inviting. Bigger, more muscle, a little more structural. Similarly mouth-watering, a little more to wait for - great finishing, needing just a little more time for 'completely delicious' but it's already close! Bravo.

    • Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" blanc 2015 - Burghound.com - June 2015 - 89/100

A slightly riper nose offers up aromas of white peach, honey, petrol and resin hints that are in keeping with the equally ripe, round and very rich full-bodied flavors that are quite generous, indeed even opulent, all wrapped in a delicious and solidly complex finish. This is very Morgeot in character and should drink well early if desired. 89/2019+

    • Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" blanc 2006 - Jack Brice on Wine Blog - November 2012 - "Favorite Chardonnay of the Summer"The color is a serious gold, nothing light or thin about it. The nose is light, toasty and slightly floral, followed by flavors that flow strongly but smoothly through stone fruits, apricot, honey, oak and finish with a nutty toastiness that is wonderfully inviting to the next sip. For me, the key to this wine's wonderfulness is balance - all the flavors, even though they are intense, are beautifully balanced throughout - and for that reason I declare that this is my favorite chardonnay of the summer.
