Clos Chameroy
The main centre of production
Situated in Savigny-Lès-Beaune, the modern and spacious Clos Chameroy complex is the main centre of production at Maison Louis Latour and perfectly complements our historic wineries in Aloxe-Corton and Pommard. The site includes a cooperage, winery, bottling and labelling lines, cellar, laboratory and printing shop.
The main centre of production
Clos Chameroy is located in Savigny-Lès-Beaune and was completed in the late 1970s. The site combines modern facilities with a respect for the traditional methods that are Maison Louis Latour's forte. This extremely spacious site is perfectly suited to our needs and includes a 5,800 square metre winery and a 6,800 square metre bottling line.
The winery has a total capacity of 30,000 hectolitres, is well organised and equipped with many different sized tanks. This layout gives our team a comfortable and flexible working space where both outstanding small and larger volume wines can be made without compromise. Throughout the winemaking and ageing processes our laboratory performs thousands of tests which allow the winemakers to carefully monitor the development of each wine.
The winery and production line are situated in two separate buildings; wine is moved from the winery to the bottling line via an underground pipeline. The production line is composed of a bottling line, and two labelling and packaging lines. These lines are largely automated to ensure work is carried out with precision and at a constant rate. Our bottling system rinses, fills and then sets the cork in the bottle. The bottles are then held for seven minutes to ensure perfect cork expansion before they are transferred, unlabelled, to metal baskets for storage in our cellars. Orders are prepared on one of our two labelling lines; the first, smaller line is flexible and is used for small or mixed orders where frequent label changes are required. The second line is fully automated and used for larger volumes.
Our cellars cover a total area of 5,200 square metres and have temperature and hydrometric controls, ensuring ideal storage conditions for the bottles that remain here for at least 6 months before shipment. At any one time our stocks will be equivalent to one year's harvest, which is around five million bottles.
Clos Chameroy also includes a print shop where all our labels and promotional materials are printed. Having this facility on site allows us to react to requests quickly and with flexibility.
And finally, our cooperage, one of Maison Louis Latour's most historic activities, is located at the Clos Chameroy. Our master coopers shape the barrels using old techniques and traditional craftsmanship. We only use our own barrels so our winemakers have an intimate understanding of how our wines will age within them. The cooperage produces approximately 3,500 barrels per year; we use a third of these and the rest are exported around the world to prestigious producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This work is a special feature of our company as very few wineries have their own cooperage, where barrels are made from beginning to end. For more information please visit the cooperage page of this website.
