Description
  • Situated to the south-west of Santenay, the Maranges appellation is at the southernmost tip of the Côte de Beaune. The Pinot Noir vineyards are planted on well-exposed south-east facing slopes, and the wines thrive on the heavy clay soil. The wines tend to be firm and tannic when young. Maranges has an excellent capacity for ageing with fine structure and intensity of a Pinot Noir fruit character.

Wine tasting
  • Tasting Note
Our Maranges 2016 has a beautiful ruby red colour. The nose reveals pleasant notes of undergrowth with subtle hints of cherry. The mouth, ample with silky tannins, offers a nice association of cherry, mocha and blackcurrant. Lovely freshness on the finish.
  • Food Pairing
Guinea fowl with cabbage - hare stew - cheese.

Press review
    • Maranges 2012 - Tom Cannavan's Wine Pages - April 2016 - 88

Burgundy, France, Dry Red, DIAM, 13.0% abv (2016) Maranges is one of the less familar names of southern Burgundy, its appellations status granted only in 1988. This is a really nice, understated and fairly lean style of Pinot Noir, but not without its subtle floral charms aromatically, and with excellent clarity on the palate, if a little lack of fruit depth.

    • Maranges 2012 - Tom Cannavan's wine-pages.com - August 2015 - 87/100

Much lighter and more delicate and open than the 2013 Bourgogne at this stage, a hint of briar and leafy bracken, and pretty cherry fruit. Light and savoury on the palate, there is a nicely roughening bit of tannin structure, and good grippy rusticity, giving this savoury and authentic appeal. (UK)
